I kinda admire Cavic as a villain. He is, regardless of the suit he wears, an amazing swimmer who separates himself from all but a select group of athletes. People should not hate on Cavic for hyping up this event. Anyone who knows of this rivalry is anxious about the final. As for phelps, I am a fan but I’m frustrated that he won’t accept Cavic’s offer to wear a jaked. What I want is an even race. Whoever takes the win, I’m happy.

Phelps’ classic finish in the 100 Fly last summer to out touch Cavic was a lesson in the basics of swimming into the wall. Every coach I ever had emphasized that, Rick Curl included. That it occurred on the world’s stage with millions of age groupers watching made it even more poignant. Now to hear the sour grapes denial from Cavic, coupled with his derision about Michael’s “speed” makes clear that these suits have engendered bravado from truly lamentable athletes. Sally Jenkins wrote about the perverse effect of these suits, and how they have unleveled the playing field. I believe she has a valid argument for getting rid of these suits, and dismissing the accomplishments of all the swimmers who have worn them for this dizzying reset of all the records. Back to one approved suit for all.

i like the fact he’s not scared of Phelps.
he (honestly) believes he already beat him in Beijing.
he just took down his WR.
and he has opening speed Phelps has never had.

You mean the suit broke the record. FINA needs to ban these things now and toss all the records from 2009.

Cavic thinks the 100 is a distance event. He can barely hold it together for the second 50. That’s exactly the kind of person these suits help the most. Without the suit his back end would start sinking and his form would go south in a hurry. But not with the suit.

Chuck the suits now.

The so called dirty serb is as american as Peter Van der Kay. The dude has probably never been to serbia in his life. But hey he capped his mouthing-off with some swimming, taking Phelps record. That is the kind of arrogance I admire.
