The world swimming governing body (FINA) on Thursday put out a list of approved suits for the 2010 competitive season. Note the list (below) includes no Blueseventies, adidas or Jaked suits, and the Speedo LZR’s that have been approved have awfully similar names to the now-banned prior suits. (The new “range is fully compliant with the new FINA rules,” FINA spokesperson Audra Silverman said.)

Another list is expected in December on the second round of submissions from suit companies, but here are the suits approved so far:

  1. Hip-Hip Hooray!
    Hip-Hip Hooray!
    Hip-Hip Hooray!

  2. David Rieder says:

    Some notable omissions/inclusions:
    1) no FS-Pro jammer… wonder what that’s all about…
    2) Nike Swift and Tracer Light made the list… this proves that we’re looking at early-2008 (minus the LZR) technology, but…
    3) Arena R-evolution (the 1st one) didn’t make it – that was the suit that had the lines running across it and was textile (think Manchester short course worlds)
    4) FS-II is on the list!

  3. David Rieder says:

    Couple more things:
    4) NOTHING from Jaked or Adidas? Interesting…
    5) The LZR Elite and LZR Pro and LZR Comp from Speedo? Can’t wait to see them…

  4. Brendan says:

I wouldnt be suprised the FS Pro Jammer isnt on there because Speedo is going to take it out of comission, and the “new” LZRs are going to look strikingly similar to the old FS Pro, but since its got the LZR name, it can now be sold for $300. Just my bet though…

  5. Brendan says:

I also bet Jaked didnt submit anything for consideration because they really didnt have anything to go off of. Most of the other suit companies could go back to their “old” suits and make modifications, but Jaked didnt really have that fallback position.

  6. Nicholas says:

    What’s this Fastskin XT?

  7. David Rieder says:

Adidas would have something to submit. Remember the old Thorpedo suits or the one Jodie Henry wore? Why couldn’t them just make those the required length?

  8. Julie Jackson says:

Does that mean the ladies open back knee fs pro is off the list? Any one know? thanks

  9. SeSc says:

Let’s wait for the second list expected in December, maybe some of the new b70, jaked, adidas aren’t finalized now…

  10. Matt says:

Who else is looking forward to seeing phelps destroy biedermann in a jammer. Re-watching the 400 IM final from melbourne (incidentally i believe Phelps was in better form in Melbourne than beijing) where Phelps conquered all in shorts, I can’t see how the change in rules is going to do anything but benefit him. Check out my Youtube channel for highlights of the Rome champs (7 mins).

  11. SusanB says:

My take on this list is if its not on the list now and they’re coming out with another update in December, the Speedo FS Pro Knee is still legal from what was published on the USA Swimming “Reference List” Rule 102.9 dated Oct. 5, 2009. The article is no longer on the USA website but it can be found at this site: http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:xc9ZVAIniPIJ:www.usaswimming.org/USASWeb/ViewNewsArticle.aspx%3FTabId%3D3%26Alias%3DRainbow%26Lang%3Den%26ItemId%3D2631%26mid%3D4409+USA+Swimming+Release+Swimsuit+List&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk

Someone from USA Swimming should clarify this point.

  12. Lolly says:

I’d like to know what Julie wants to know – is the FS Pro kneeskin legal?
    Thanks

  13. SusanB says:

Our club coach was at the USA Convention and he say, “Yes”…..Really I don’t think a lot of these swimming people know much of anything.

  14. dfgsdrgysdrgt says:

what about the female nike swift

  15. Julie Jackson says:

Speedo website has taken their fs pro off. It says no longer available for purchase so I am guessing fs pro is not legal in 2010.

  16. Stefan Wiking says:

Wonder what will happen if “little Johnny” – 8 years enters a competition with a pair of shorts from GAP (with pockets) in his first competition. Disqualified? Anyone who wants to buy some well used Jaked ;-) )

  17. Ali F says:

I have a Speedo FSII kneeskin, but it has the little rubber dots and I’ve heard they need to be picked off for it to be legal. Does anyone know if this is true?

  18. G Unit says:

There is no reason for the FSPro jammer to be banned considering the LZR Racer Pro is just a ‘More Durable’ version of the FSPro and the LZR Racer Elite is just FSPro with no seams. Just speedo ripping people off charging 300 bucks for a FSPro with ‘LZR’ stuck onto it’s name.

BTW- The fastskin i a japanese fastskin 1 that come in cool colours and designs.

  19. jsbuser says:

So there is a 2010 list. If Speedo or Arena dont put up old swimwear models to be tested and only next years ones, then you have too go and buy next years. Why would they care if its an old fabric/design/etc. they still make money by branding it LZR. I dont get the Arena R-Evolution 1 or FS pro not being on the list. Arnt they both “textile fabric” suits

  20. Ncaaswimer says:

Anyone know if the women’s nike swift knees is legal?

  21. Alastair Pearson says:

Hell, i am a competitive swimmer but up to this point I had not been able to convince my parent that anything more than the basic Speedo jammer was required for competitive swimming. However, now I’m looking for a suit in the 80-130 dollar price range. Any suggestions?

  22. breast is best says:

So can we determine that the FSPro kneeskin does not appear on the legal list!! I thought that this list was only for international competitions not the normal run of the mill open meets

  23. Can anyone please tell me how much;

“Speedo Men’s LZR Racer Comp Jammer”

    Will cost?

    Thank You In Advance.
