Paul,

Jeff is right: you don’t want to mess with your shoulder!

You felt a "slight" pop, then felt pain on every stroke. Not a good sign and certainly a thing you do not HTFU about. You are running the risk of doing more damage and having to take more time off from swimming in the long run.

Go see your doc, that's why you have health insurance.

Paul,

Ice AND ibuprofen.

As your shoulder starts to feel better ask one of the Athletic Trainers you come across in your work (high school, college, pro) for some exercises that will strengthen your shoulder. A few minutes a day or every other day with these exercises will go a long way to keeping your shoulders in good shape.

And lastly, a Tigers hat?! I grew up in Michigan and have been a life-long Tigers fan. Go Gers!

Paul, do you sleep on your side? If so, then that is going to aggravate your shoulders. I've had the same issue and I've had to sleep with a large pillow under my knees which really helps to keep me from rolling to the side and sleeping on that side's shoulder.
