Northern Region Swim/Dive Championship Psych Sheet
For the second consecutive week, swimmers around the area will be forced to adjust to a new schedule for swimming championships with forecasts of a snowstorm set to hit the area this weekend.
Last week, teams were forced to swim timed finals during the preliminary heats – with only the National District holding separate preliminaries and finals. The National District held finals on Monday after snow postponed Saturday’s event.
With the forecast again calling for snow on Friday and Saturday, county administrators have set a new schedule to assure the regional championships are held this weekend.
The girls’ and boys’ preliminaries will be run as timed finals in case snow cancels the finals, which are set to be held on Saturday.
The girls’ preliminaries will be held Thursday night at Oak Marr RECenter at 5:30. , while the boys’ preliminaries will be held early Friday. Officials are still waiting to confirm the time of the boys’ preliminaries, though the meet may start as early as 1 p.m.
Boys’ diving will be held Thursday night at Audrey Moore RECenter at 5:30 p.m., and girls’ diving is schedule for 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Audrey Moore.
UPDATE: Thursday night’s girls’ swim preliminaries were held as timed finals and likely will be the final results for the meet, though there is an outside chance a finals will be held next week. Tentatively, a boys’ preliminaries (run as a timed finals) will be held at Washington-Lee pool next Friday, Feb. 12.
That decision is still waiting final approval.
Northern Region boys’ diving was held last night, and the girls’ diving will be held next Friday, Feb. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Audrey Moore RECenter in Annandale.
“This is to our knowledge the best we can do,” said West Potomac assistant director of student activities Barbara Mahony.

thanks Paul for the great coveage of the championship swim meets
Thanks Paul, any news about AA Dulles district? They are scheduled to swim Friday evening.
Thanks,
make sure you do video at reigions people always love to watch them. thanks for the great coverage of the high school….its cool to get recognized.
boys 100 breast at northern regions….its gonna be really fast
The school system pays thousands of dollars in rent for practice and meets at FCPA pools. Can’t the park Authority find a way to back this work?, next weekend? Why are our swimmers forced into a “timed finals” situation this weekend? States isn’t for two weeks, why couldn’t the whole schedule be pushed back until next week?
Te Washington Metro Prep School Swim & Dive League champs, which are supposed to take place on Saturday at George Mason in a prelim/finals format, may also have to be moved to a timed final on Sunday, if possible. It’s such a shame the snow is coming during championship season!
Its not the ideal situation but it happens, its happened in the apst. My daughter was at states several years ago when finals were canceled at the last minute because of weather and they went with the prelim times.Their was no notice then. at least the swimmers have notice this time and can give it everything they have got.
And their is no guarantee their will not be a storm next weekend..better to do it know and give swimmers that make states time to prepare
My only problem with this article is that I’m a freakin coach in the Northern Region and this is the first time I’ve seen the pysch sheet!!!
So I wonder if they are going to circle seed the prelims in the hopes that they can hold finals or will they swim prelims as a timed final event with straight seeding. Definitely makes a difference. . . . .
the meet is being swum as timed finals, no circle seeding, no finals…. tonight for girls tomorrow for boys
In case of Friday cancellation, Dulles AA will be held either Saturday @ 5:00pm or
Monday @ 6:00pm
FCPS will be closed on Friday. I thought athletic events could not be held on days when the schools were closed. Has the boys’ northern region meet been cancelled?
Results anyone?
