There were several notable events that took place across the country. Here are the best from the past week.

Rebecca Soni sets a meet record in Switzerland. Rebecca Soni, a New Jersey native, set an impressive meet record at the Uster International meet held in Switzerland on the last day of January. Her time of 2:21.75 in the 200 yard breaststroke set a new meet record.

Jessica Hardy also participated in the meet, winning the 50 meter freestyle event (24.64). In addition, she swam on a multi-national relay team with Denmark.

Soni will appear on the cover of Swimming World Magazine’s February issue.

Michael Phelps will participate at the Missouri Grand Prix, the next major swimming event this month. According to the Columbia Missourian, Michael Phelps will compete in the Missouri Grand Prix. The event will begin ion Feb. 12.

Phelps last competed in the Southern California Grand Prix in Long Beach, Calif.. The Missouri Grand Prix will be held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.

Chloe Sutton is the current leader of the Grand Prix Series with 31 points. She is followed by Soni and Matt Grevers, who are both tied for second place with 26 points. Phelps is currently in seventh place with 16 points.

Swim Across America to honor former Olympic coach Richard Quick. Richard Quick, Auburn University’s former swim coach and a six-time Olympic swimming coach, passed away last June. Swim Across America is planning to honor Coach Quick through the second annual “Swim Quick” event that will raise funding and awareness for cancer research.

Swimmers around the world are encouraged to swim in remembrance of those who lost their lives to cancer.

San Jose-area coach sentenced for child molestation. 61-year-old Andrew King was sentenced to 40 years in prison for child molestation of swimmers he had coached. King had coached for 31 years, according to the Mercury News.

There were additional accusations made against him, but the court could not include them due to location-based limits.

Stanford University to host the U.S. Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Nationals. Palo Alto Online is reporting that Stanford will host the event for the first time in six years. Ohio State will look to defend its championship from last season against an array of NCAA teams from Division I, II, III and the NAIA.
