The PVS board should be applauded for the pro-active approach they have taken. It will be interesting to see what happens to Occoquan in the fall. They lost coaches and some of their best swimmers over this controversy. They told their membership they would meet regularly throughout the summer, but never followed through. Maybe ignoring the issue will turn out to be the best way to handle this. It is a shame to see how the GM and board have, in my opinion destroyed this team.

I applaud the ban of cameras from locker rooms and behind the blocks. But how does that address the issue of coach misconduct? The problem isn't at swim meets, where there are hundreds of people around. The problem is at practices when few are present. That's where parents need to be involved and aware of exactly what the coaches are doing. It seems to me by banning photography at meets, Potomac Valley is trying to take the focus off the real problem--a potentially unhealthy relationship between coaches and young swimmers. In addition to banning cameras, Potomac Valley should be educating coaches (not merely putting "the fear of God into them"), requiring more stringent background checks for coaches, educating swimmers, and encouraging parents to be more involved with their programs. While the individual clubs have the primary responsibility, Potomac Valley owes it to the swimmers to enact meaningful policies, and not just attempt a quick PR fix.

thanks for these stories.
another thing id like to mention is doing a story on some of the great younger swimmers from some "other" teams.

11 year old christian ginieczki of HAC won the 11-12 200 fly in a 2:31 at age group champs today. his time is the second fastest 11-year old 200 fly time in the nation.

there's someone like isabella rongione, 10, from FISH who hasn't swum in the meet yet but i am sure is to have a great meet looking at her seeds.

or, there's 13 year old caroline mctaggart from ASA, who has placed second behind janet hu in the 50, 200, and 400 free at the meet so far.

just some more suggetions.
