Sean Fletcher made his final summer swim league meet a successful one this past Saturday in the Northern Virginia Swimming League Individual All-Star Meet at Broyhill Crest.
Fletcher, who was the 2009 All-Met Swimmer of the Year as a senior at Madison High, broke his own NVSL record for 15-18 year-old boys in the 50-meter backstroke, 25.82 seconds. He also finished first in the 50-meter butterfly, in 25.07 seconds.
A rising sophomore at the University of Michigan, Fletcher spent this summer as an assistant coach at Hunter Mill and figured that since he was going to be at the pool, he might as well swim.
“It’s always a lot of fun, I really enjoy being out there,” said Fletcher, who set 17 NVSL records during his career. “All my friends swim too. Being able to hang out there and have a little competition between us, it’s a lot of fun.”
It’s not terribly common for swimmers with remaining eligibility to return to the NVSL after their freshman year of college; Fletcher estimated there were “probably 10 or 15 of us.”
“I just do it for the experience, just for the fun,” he said. “If I didn’t coach, I probably wouldn’t have swam.”
There were four other multiple boys’ winners in the NVSL All-Stars:
John McClorey of Dunn Loring won the 9-10 50 free (31.68 seconds) and 100 IM (1:19.90).
Christopher Murphy of McLean won the 11-12 50 free (27.23) and 50 fly (29.74).
James Murphy of Little Rocky Run won the 11-12 50 back (30.86) and 100 IM (1:09.12).
Paul O’Hara of Hollin Meadows won the 13-14 50 free (25.53) and 100 IM (1:03.16).

Colonial Swim League
In the Colonial Swim League’s All-Star Meet at Parkway Pool in Countryside, three league records were set, one was tied and 12 swimmers won multiple events, with nine of those winning three events.
Dennis Lai of Armfield Farm might have had the best day of any swimmer, winning three events for 11-12 year-old boys and setting two records, in the 50-meter backstroke (31.32) and 100 IM (1:08.58). He also won the 50 breaststroke (35.59).

One small correction, Paul O’Hara swims with Hollin Meadows (HM) and not Hunter Mill (HTM).
Is Paul O’Hara related to the O’Hara family that swam at HM in the late 60′s early 70′s? a grand child, perhaps/
For Colonial League results, you may want to distinguish between Burke Centre Penguins and Burke Centre Stingers……
yes. He is son of one of the O’Hara’s from HM in the 60s and 70s.
Yes, Paul is related to the O’Haras who swam at Hollin Meadows. In fact, he is the son of one of the O’Haras and one of the Krysas, who also swam at Hollin Meadows. How do you know the O’Haras, swimmom?
Yea Chrisitne!!!!! Way to represent RSD and the Stingers.
