One year after capturing a razor-thin five-point victory to claim the Virginia A-AA state championship, Brentsville’s talented core of seniors capped their high school careers with another title – this time with a little less late drama.

Whitman girls repeat at Metros; Gonzaga boys victorious

The Whitman girls rode a pair of record-setting relays to their second straight Metros title while Gonzaga used its overwhelming depth to capture its first title since 2003.

Defending Virginia AAA state champion divers Cory Bowersox and Kelli Stockton surpassed all expectations with their performances at the USA Diving Winter Nationals, but while doing so, missed their respective district and regional meets. Now neither will get the opportunity to defend their title at this weekend’s state meet.

After taking second place at the district, regional, and state meets last year, the Langley girls are back and stronger than ever. With district and regional titles already to their names this year, the girls hope to add a state title to that collection this weekend.

The Churchill, Blair, Blake and Clarksburg boys and Whitman, Northwest, Magruder and Springbrook girls each picked up wins at their respective division meets as Montgomery County’s public schools geared up for this weekend’s Montgomery County championships. Westfield boys, Langley girls take Northern Region titles

As Westfield senior CJ Fiala turned off on the last wall in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the final boys’ event of the Virginia AAA Northern Region swim and dive championships, he found himself neck and neck with Robinson’s anchor. Madison divers won both the boys’ and girls’ 1M diving competition to open the 2011 Northern Region Swim and Dive Championships, but the region titles won’t be decided until the swimmers take the water on Saturday evening.

Madison divers sweep Northern Region

Five days after winning the girls’ and boys’ diving titles at the AAA Liberty District meet, Madison seniors Kelly Corish and Ryan Fox capped a memorable week with a clean sweep at the Northern Region diving championships. At the WMPSSDL championships, Sidwell Friends junior Olivia Grinker won her third straight diving title while Landon’s Jordan Gear won the boys’ title.
