Swimmers across the region spent part of their Fourth of July weekend in the pool, and they had no trouble getting into the holiday spirit. With more down-to-the-wire meets and broken records, there were plenty of fireworks from an exciting slate of action.
In a weekly feature, check out a selection of photos that tell the story:

Seven Locks's Serge Gould, 18, set a new pool record in the boys' 15-18 100 back (1:01.50) in Saturday's loss at Tanterra. It was the MCSL's third-best time of the weekend in the event. (Photo: Ginny Maycock)

The Manchester Farm girls' graduated 175 free relay of (pictured from left) Rachel Ziegler (13), Addie Tallman (8), Dylan Gribble (12) and Christina Collins (10) established a new team record (1:56.10) in Saturday's Division B meet at Potomac Glen.

Poplar Tree's Nicole Baker, 13, won the girls' 13-14 50 free and 50 breast, but the Pirates couldn't catch Pinecrest in an NVSL Division 6 meet. (Photo: Mark Hall)

In one of the weekend's closest meets, Burke Station held off Lake Braddock, 205-195, for its first NVSL Division 14 win of the season. (Photo: Scott Ripley)

175-meter relay?
Yup – 175 meter relay – in MCSL the 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14 in that order swim 50 free, and the 8 and under anchors in a 25 – while it was odd when they first switched to 175, it is the highlight of the meet in many cases – nothing like having your 8 and under win the meet for the team!
That’s Maryland summer swimming for you!
Hey Rays,
LET’S GET READY TO RUMMMMMMMMMBLLLLLLLLLLLLLE
