Area divers travel to compete in 2011 "The Instead of Spinner" Invitational

Divers from Alexandria Dive Club, Mason Dive Academy, and Montgomery Dive Club competed at the “Instead of Spinner” Invitational at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey.

The meet's unusual name comes from the meet's predecessor, the Spinner Diving Invitational, hosted by Spinner Diving, which has since disbanded. The new meet is hosted by Blue Dolphin Diving.

Eighteen teams competed on four boards run simultaneously, making for a hectic and noisy environment.

Montgomery Diving Club fought with Alexandria Dive Club for fourth place in the team overall competition. However, Montgomery earned two more points to to drop ADC to fifth. Mason Dive Academy finished in 14th place.

It was a family affair on the boards as Jacob Fisher (7), Miah Fisher (8), and Hailey Fisher (11) competed for ADC.

Haley placed second in both the girls 12-13 1m J.O. (234.25) and 3m J.O. (248.3).

Jacob won both the boys 9 & Under 1m J.O. (125.65) and 3m J.O. (109.3)

Miah (8) won the girls 9 & Under 3m Novice with 66.0 points. She also finished second (139.85) in the girls 9 & Under 1m J.O. to ADC teammate Anne Fow

ler (9) won took first-place with 187.4 points. Fowler earned 185.5 points in the girls 11 & Under 1m J.O for another first place finish.

Montgomery Dive Club placed consistently, winning five events.

Melissa Novak (13) placed first in the girls 12-13 3m Novice (112.0) and second in the 1m Intermediate (141.15).

Madeline Pfaff (11) finished second in the girls 11 & Under 3m J.O. with 158.7 points.

Eleanor Smith (10) scored 87.85 points to finish second in the girls 10-11 3m Novice.

Her teammate Dorothy Shapiro (11) won the girls 10-11 3m Intermediate with 130.2 points. She also placed second in the girls 10-11 1m Intermediate with 109.1 points.

Ian Shelton (13) performed well in the boys 12-13 1m J.O (297.05), finishing second, and 3m J.O (315.25), placing first.

Caroline McCleary (15) posted 194.5 in the girls 14-15 1m Intermediate for first place.

Shane Miller (15) won the boys 14-15 1m Intermediate with 200.85 points.

Closing out the meet for area divers was George Mason Academy's only winner, Clark Girardin (16), who won the boys 16-18 1m Intermediate with 173.85 points.
