Maryland 4A/3A Swimming Championships; Powell sets three individual state records
Saturday, February 25th, 2012Montgomery County teams shined at this year’s Maryland 4A/3A Swimming Championship, dominating the team competition. 16 state records were broken by MCPS swimmers, as Walter Johnson’s boys and Whitman’s girls claimed their school’s first state titles.

Preview: 4A/3A Maryland Swimming & Diving Championship Meet
Thursday, February 23rd, 2012Montgomery County teams will head to their first Maryland 4A-3A Swimming Championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 25. The county boasts most of the top swimmers in the state, and they have a chance to rewrite the record books this weekend. Check out RFTW’s preview of this year’s state meet inside.

Preview: Washington Metro Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championship
Friday, February 10th, 2012Gonzaga enters this week’s championship meets as one of the hottest teams in the area, coming off wins at the National Catholic and WMPSSDL championship meets. They will be tested this weekend at the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championship. The Metros finals are Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center, where the best teams from Montgomery County, WMPSSDL, and DCIAA come together for one of the best collections of high school talent in on the East Coast.

Walter Johnson boys win Division I; Churchill girls propelled past Wootton & Whitman by divers
Saturday, February 4th, 2012Walter Johnson won the MCPS Division I Championship after a close meet with Churchill’s boys. Churchill girls beat Wootton and Whitman after placing first, third, and fourth in diving to give the Bulldogs a lead going into the swimming events.

Weekly Wrap-up: Woodson, Yorktown, Oakton alone at the top in Va. with Districts around the corner
Monday, January 16th, 2012Woodson, Yorktown, and Oakton are undefeated on both girls’ and boys’ sides in the Northern Region with one meet to go. Churchill, Wootton, Walter Johnson, and Whitman are battling it out in the MCPS’ top division, and are looking ahead to their first Maryland states appearances.
