On a night where few races were won without achieving an All-American cut time, Oakton’s boys’ and girls’ teams outlasted the competition to once again stand tall as the AAA Northern Region champions. Oakton’s boys beat Woodson, 281.5 to 250, at Oakmarr RECenter, despite not winning a single event until the final relay of the night.

Yorktown nearly doubled their nearest competitors in points on Saturday night at the 2012 National District Championship. Washington-Lee boys repeated in a total team effort.

Yorktown girls’ team (7-0) are again undefeated this season, having not lost a regular season or district championship meet in over a decade. On the boys’ side, an undefeated Washington-Lee boys’ team are the reigning champions and are not ready to relinquish their crown. Events begin each night at 5:30 p.m. at the brand-new Yorktown Pool in Arlington. Swimming preliminaries will be on Friday, Jan. 27, with finals the next night, Jan. 28. Read about All-Met swimmers Laura Schwartz (Falls Church), Stephanie Romano (Yorktown), and Joel DeSatnick (Hayfield) in their pursuit of Va. State berths. Complete psych sheet available.

Woodson, Yorktown, and Oakton are undefeated on both girls’ and boys’ sides in the Northern Region with one meet to go. Churchill, Wootton, Walter Johnson, and Whitman are battling it out in the MCPS’ top division, and are looking ahead to their first Maryland states appearances.

Northern Region girls’ swimming prelims were run as timed finals, and though there is an outside chance a finals may be held next week it is more likely these are the final region results. Also, an update on boys’ swimming and girls’ diving. RESULTS ATTACHED!

Washington-Lee’s boys’ fell just eight points short against a Patriots team that swept the titles at Washington-Lee pool, with the girls’ team turning in a dominant performance by scoring 606 points, 357 more than second-place Falls Church.
