Manor Woods 18-year-old Matt Thomas won both of his races at Sunday’s MCSL Individual All-Star Meet, including a record-setting performance in the 100 free. Westlake’s Anthony Nguyen, 9, headlined the PMSL All-Star Meet.

Swimmers from several area leagues (MCSL, PMSL, PWSL, CSL and DCCL) will hit the water this weekend with their first chance of the summer to showcase their improvement since last season. As the new season begins, many familiar faces will be back hoping to build on their past success.
We’re back! Finally! It’s time to kick off the 2010-11 high school swim season, and we’ll start with today’s boys’ preview featuring swimmers to watch and the top storylines from around the region.

Whitman’s girls win their first Metros title, while Georgetown Prep cruises to a seventh consecutive championship on Saturday night. Records fell with Whitman’s Danielle Schulkin and Good Counsel’s Sarah Haase and Jack Conger all setting marks. COMPLETE RESULTS INSIDE
The Washington Metropolitan Prep School Swim and Dive League boys’ swimming championship was held Wednesday evening at Georgetown Prep after the snow delayed the meet several times. In a back-and-forth affair, Georgetown Prep distanced itself late from rival Gonzaga to claim the win with 437 points, ahead of the Eagles 399.5 and DeMatha’s 376. FULL RESULTS ATTACHED!
Here are the top three times in all 24 events leading up to Virginia A-AA and AAA states, WMPSSDLs and Metros in the coming days and weeks. The times were submitted to reachforthewall.com by coaches and administrators after duals, districts, divisionals, regionals and other meets.
Good Counsel’s girls take home a National Catholic title, while Seton School’s Jameson Hill and Holy Cross’s Katie Rogers win Most Valuable Swimmer over the weekend. Hill turned in two automatic All-American times and snapped a record set by Olympian Bobby Hackett that has stood since 1977.
Dual meets often are viewed as merely building blocks early in the season for the championship meets that come later. But for DeMatha — which opened the season with dominant performances in four consecutive wins — two dual meets this week will serve as a gauge of how the Stags stack up for the Washington Metro Prep School Swim and Dive League and Metros championships later this year.
