Gonzaga wins National Catholics, as the dual meet season comes to a close for Montgomery County High Schools; Virginia district championships kicked off. Results posted for MCPS, Va. AAA Cardinal, Concorde, Liberty, National, & Patriot Districts, as well as National Catholics and Va. AA Dulles District. Also a quick look ahead to the second weekend of championship meets.
Yorktown nearly doubled their nearest competitors in points on Saturday night at the 2012 National District Championship. Washington-Lee boys repeated in a total team effort.
Yorktown girls’ team (7-0) are again undefeated this season, having not lost a regular season or district championship meet in over a decade. On the boys’ side, an undefeated Washington-Lee boys’ team are the reigning champions and are not ready to relinquish their crown. Events begin each night at 5:30 p.m. at the brand-new Yorktown Pool in Arlington. Swimming preliminaries will be on Friday, Jan. 27, with finals the next night, Jan. 28. A little snow didn’t slow down northern Virginia’s top teams, as perennial powerhouses concluded their regular season with wins. Maryland schools were forced to cancel their meets due to icy roads from the storm that hit Friday night.
Virginia high schools competed on both Friday and Saturday night this past weekend. This week, our featured meet is South County versus Lake Braddock. Read more inside, along with more summaries and results from this all of this week’s high school action.

UPDATED 2/5! With the forecast again calling for snow on Friday and Saturday, county administrators have set a new schedule to assure the regional championships are held this weekend. Washington-Lee’s boys’ fell just eight points short against a Patriots team that swept the titles at Washington-Lee pool, with the girls’ team turning in a dominant performance by scoring 606 points, 357 more than second-place Falls Church.
Madison’s boys’ and girls’ teams took home titles in the Liberty District, W.T. Woodson’s boys’ and girls’ earned championships in the Patriot and the Oakton boys and Robinson girls won titles in the Concorde in meets around the area. FULL RESULTS INSIDE!!
