Gonzaga wins National Catholics, as the dual meet season comes to a close for Montgomery County High Schools; Virginia district championships kicked off. Results posted for MCPS, Va. AAA Cardinal, Concorde, Liberty, National, & Patriot Districts, as well as National Catholics and Va. AA Dulles District. Also a quick look ahead to the second weekend of championship meets.
Records were broken Saturday night at the 2012 AAA Patriot District Championship meet. Woodson boys’ and girls’ impressed as they won the district title.
RFTW’s look at this weekend’s Va. AAA Patriot District Championship Swim & Dive Meet, taking place January 26-28 at Lee District RECenter. Woodson is the run away favorite to repeat as boys’ champions, but if the past is any indication of the outcome for the girls, the meet will not be over until the final relay is over.

A little snow didn’t slow down northern Virginia’s top teams, as perennial powerhouses concluded their regular season with wins. Maryland schools were forced to cancel their meets due to icy roads from the storm that hit Friday night.
Woodson, Yorktown, and Oakton are undefeated on both girls’ and boys’ sides in the Northern Region with one meet to go. Churchill, Wootton, Walter Johnson, and Whitman are battling it out in the MCPS’ top division, and are looking ahead to their first Maryland states appearances.
West Springfield picked up its first loss of the season against a dominant Woodson team that is stacked from top to bottom. The Cavaliers should finish the season 7-0 next week against Lake Braddock before setting their sites on district, regional, and state titles.
Friday night will feature W.T. Woodson (5-0, 5-0) versus West Springfield (5-0, 5-0) in a matchup between undefeated teams.

Madison divers won both the boys’ and girls’ 1M diving competition to open the 2011 Northern Region Swim and Dive Championships, but the region titles won’t be decided until the swimmers take the water on Saturday evening.

After months of dual meets, the championship season has finally arrived for Virginia teams as the area district meets open this weekend across the Northern Region. Here is a quick preview of the area Virginia AAA Northern Region district championships.
Several Saturday meets went down to the wire in Montgomery County as the Whitman boys edged Walter Johnson by two points and Einstein squeaked past Clarksburg by four to win a key Division IV dual meet. Also included: wrap-up of Friday’s Virginia AA Dulles District dual meet between Loudoun County and Freedom-South Riding and notes on Woodson’s win over West Springfield.
W.T. Woodson enters a dual tonight against defending Virginia AAA Patriot District champion West Springfield with an undefeated record hoping build confidence with the district championships just two weeks away.
W.T. Woodson stayed undefeated on the year with wins on both the boys’ and girls’ sides over Annandale, while Jefferson also kept a clean record with convincing wins over South Lakes. Both teams enter winter break at a perfect 4-0.
