Top two American swimmers put down top times in early heats of grueling 400 individual medley.
In the coming weeks, swimming, diving, gymnastics and track and field will hold intense, one-shot trials to pick athletes to send to the 2012 Summer Olympics. After putting everything into making the team, the winners will have to quickly regroup and compete in the biggest competition of their lives.
Installation of the U.S. Olympic Trials pool began on Wednesday in Omaha, Neb.
