Gonzaga enters this week’s championship meets as one of the hottest teams in the area, coming off wins at the National Catholic and WMPSSDL championship meets. They will be tested this weekend at the Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championship. The Metros finals are Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center, where the best teams from Montgomery County, WMPSSDL, and DCIAA come together for one of the best collections of high school talent in on the East Coast.

That list of undefeated teams got smaller over the weekend, as we put 2012′s first week of high school swimming behind us.
Good Counsel beat paired Stone Ridge School and Gonzaga College High School, 116-70 and 94-91, respectively, with 1st-place performances by several area stars, including three Olympic Trials qualifiers and a recent National Age Group record holder.
Montgomery County schools have not yet been forced to join the scramble to reschedule championship meets. UPDATE: MCPS cancels school for the week; no word yet on divisional meets.
